| Something to consider about piano tuning lever tips: | Many novice & professional piano tuners alike have complained for years about the poor fit of their piano tuning tips. These may be well founded complaints as perhaps the most recognized and respected makers in piano tuning tools of some 3+ decades ago are long gone. Even though the namesake remains, the company who now owns use of the once famous "brand" has failed to maintain the standard for which made the name synonomous with the quality of the original company. This point is best made by looking to leading piano tuning schools who refuse to provide inferior tuning tools to their students. Quality tools guaranteed to last a lifetime prove this very important point - and you shouldn't settle for less either.
A #2 tuning pin will invariably be the same diameter around the thread, but the slope from the tip of the pin down to the eyelet must be carefully considered in order that the 2# tuning tip fits properly and uniformly. It is for this very reason that the "famous" name on the tuning tip you buy doesn't really mean a thing anymore. What you use will make a huge difference in the longevity of the tool, your satisfaction and most important, the ability to tune properly. Specialized tools must perform a specific task and therefore, should not be thought of as a socket wrench (yes, people actually have tried this with disasterous result). It is also important to mention here that lacking a "perfect fit" when using your tuning lever doesn’t necessarily mean you have a bad tuning tip (tuning pins can and do wear unevenly too - maybe even from a bad tip being used in the past). NewOctave Corporation (NOC) producer of the only piano tuning tips we sell are manufactured to an incredible .0001+/- tolerance. By taking several steps to quantify production metrics by several companies (inclding our own), we believe that NewOctave GlobalTM tips are the best made (and best fitting tips) in the world. Don't take our word for it. Talk to those who use them and refuse to use anything else (the schools for instance). International Piano Supply will replace to the original purchaser any NewOctave GlobalTM tuning tip, head or lever which fails for any reason, no matter how long ago it was acquired. |
